The term scrap gold refers to old pieces of jewelry and gold recovered from computer chips and motherboards etc. With the gold price so high many are tempted to cash in their unwanted jewelry for money. If you are looking to do the same then I would advise making sure you know how much your item is worth before you approach any would be buyer.

The website linked below is a useful tool to help you work out scrap gold prices based on the current gold price. It is very simple to use with not much effort needed on your part. Here is how.

1) Go to the website in the "links" section.

2) The large yellow box is the scrap gold calculator. Select the currency you want to get scrap gold values in.

3) Select the type of metal ( for this example it would be gold)

4) Select type of gold (for this example - jewelry)

5) Select karat rating. For jewelry the karat rating is stamped somewhere on there - you may need a magnifying glass to read it clearly.

6) Select weight type troy ounces or grams

7) Then the number of ounces or grams your items weigh.

Hit calculate and the scrap gold calculator will work out immediately the current value based on the latest gold price.

If you have several items it might be worth signing up and creating a portfolio - its free and once again very easy to use.

Using the Scrap Gold Calculator to Work Out Coin Values

In my other article I talked about using the scrap gold calculator to work out the value of European Gold Coins. You can also get up to the minute values on all mint issued gold coins from all around the world and older US gold coins as well as pre 1965 silver coins such as Kennedy Half Dollars and Roosevelt dimes - known as Junk Silver. Current mint issued gold coins are listed under "bullion coins" and older US gold coins are under "semi numismatic coins".
